Fall Skin Care Newsletter

Fall is the perfect time of year to start repairing your skin from the damage caused by the sun during the hot summer months. We have lots of different treatment options available from skin care products to laser treatments and chemical peels.

Skin Care Products

Retinol is a perfect start for anyone wanting to up their skincare game. It's a product that can benefit all skin types and people of all ages. One of our favorite Retinols is from Alastin. This particular product works great on all skin types and is more hydrating than some of the other retinols on the market. This retinol comes in 2 different strengths .25% and .50% but we have found that our clients can all handle the stronger strength. (Retail price is $60)

Another popular choice is made by ZO Skin Health and is called Retinol Skin Brightener. This comes in 3 strengths, .25%, .50%, and 1%. Retinol Skin Brightener is a bit stronger than the Alastin so we recommend working your way up to daily usage. (Retail price is $104)

Vivant Skin Care makes Bleaching Serum Forte which is formulated with a low dose hydroquinone 2%, kojic acid, and vitamin A. This product will be perfectly suited for someone battling all over pigmentation issues like melasma. (Retail price $74)

Laser Treatments

Clear + Brilliant is by far our most popular laser treatment. Our clients love the results and the little to no downtime that comes with it. This treatment helps with skin tone, texture, pore size and pigmentation. We recommend a series of 3 spaced 1 month apart for best results. Clear + Brilliant treatments take approximately 1 hour from start to finish. Our laser technician Nichole will apply a topical numbing cream to your face, neck or chest for 30 minutes, then she will remove it and begin the treatment. The numbing cream helps to make the treatment comfortable as well as the handheld cooling we provide. (Retail price is $250 each or 3 for $600)

Photofacial (BBL) is a well known laser treatment used to treat sun spots or age spots on the face and body. This treatment is very fast and effective, usually less than 30 minutes. Depending on the severity of your skin it could take multiple sessions spaced 1 month apart to achieve your ultimate goal. (Retail price is $250 each or 3 for $600)

Dual Fraxel is a more aggressive treatment used for anti-aging as well as pigmentation issues. Fraxel does have a little more downtime than the other mentioned treatments,  includes a week of redness, swelling, and texture changes. We don't want people to use heavy makeup but we allow for a tinted SPF to help camouflage some of the redness. (Retail price is $600 for face) You can find more information online at https://www.fraxel.com/#where-it-works

Esthetician Services

Chemical Peel

We use the Lira TCA Mineral Peel. This peel combines salicylic acid and trichloroacetic acid with a special peeling agent for the most effective professional strength peel available. Skin looks and feels rejuvenated,  helps to lighten skin and works well treating acne scarring.  Similar to the Fraxel, this peel comes with 1 week of downtime while the old skin sheds and the new skin appears. (Retail price is $225)

Dermaplaning or Microdermabrasion are both different options for exfoliating the skin. Either of these treatments will be beneficial during your skincare journey, especially when used 1 week post laser or chemical peel. (Retail price is $60 for deluxe dermaplaning or $90 for a custom facial which includes either dermaplaning or microdermabrasion)

Lip Injections

Thanks to Kylie Jenner lip injections have hit an all time high! Seems like everyone is wanting to get their lips done.

Rachel Imperato, Nurse Practitioner attends many different trainings each year and is always trying to find new techniques that are easier on our patients and involve less downtime.

The last several months she has been perfecting her technique of doing lip injections with a cannula. A cannula is a blunt needle that easily pushes the product where she needs it without multiple pokes to the lips and was recently approved by the FDA. In fact, she only uses a needle on the corners of the mouth and feeds the cannula through it. This technique involves less bruising, swelling, downtime and is much safer than needle injections. Our patients are loving their results!

Dysport for Sweating

Do you deal with embarrassing underarm sweating or excessive sweating to other places on the body, also known as hyperhidrosis? Did you know Dysport can help with that?

Dysport helps with much more than just lines and wrinkles or helping us look younger, it can also greatly reduce sweating on the body. Underarms are the most popular treatment but also the palms of your hands, soles of your feet, and face or anywhere that you are dealing with this issue. This is something you can do in the summer or year round if needed, it can also help with body odor as well.

Who is a candidate for this treatment?

This treatment is typically recommended for people who have tried everything but cannot get relief — even with the strongest antiperspirants or medication.

How Long Will The Treatment Take? How Many Treatments Are Needed?

The treatment itself takes approximately 15 minutes in the office. Repeat injections can be done as often as you would like.

How long does the treatment last?

The effects of Dysport injections usually last approximately 3 to 4 months. Although, some patients are free of excessive sweating for more than 7 months to a year.

Taking care of your skin in the winter

Winter is a great time to invest in your skin.

Most of us are spending time outdoors during the summer, especially if you live here at the Lake of the Ozarks which makes taking proper care of your skin sometimes difficult. During the winter your skin is able to take a break from the sun and with a few treatments you can start to repair some of the past sun damage.
Proper Skincare- Here at Lake Medical Spa our #1 recommended skincare line is ZO Medical or ZO Skin Health. We have been able to see major results with this line formulated by the well known dermatologist Dr. Zein Obagi. ZO Medical's Brightalive product is formulated to manage pigment and when combined with ZO Medical C-Bright 10% Vitamin C Serum the two products work together to effectively reverse uneven pigmentation while improving your overall skin tone and texture.

Laser Treatments-
Clear and Brilliant is a great gentle laser treatment with little to no downtime. You can apply makeup immediately following the treatment and go back to work. In the days following the treatment you may notice some flaking or dryness of the skin but most people notice a better looking complexion in just a few short days.

Photofacial/ IPL- This is a great option with no downtime- this can be for the entire face or just a few sunspots that might be bothering you. After this treatment you will notice the brown spots actually flake off your skin right before your eyes. Deeper spots may take up to 3 treatments.
Fraxel is a non-invasive laser treatment that can address many concerns including pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring and more. Our patients love Fraxel treatments although they do come with a little more downtime than the other mentioned treatments. You can expect to have facial redness for about a week following the treatment but you are able to wear make-up to cover it up in just a few days.

All of our laser skincare treatments are performed by our experienced and knowledgeable laser technician Nichole Richey, CST.

If you haven't experienced a facial with our highly skilled esthetician Laury Von Gunten you are seriously missing out. She is extremely knowledgeable about all things skin and is always here to give you the best advise as well as a warm loving smile. Laury utilized several tools during her famous custom facial. She used several different masks, peels and also microdermabrasion and extractions, if necessary, that will leave your skin feeling revitalized and refreshed.
